Chromebooks now Free with Courses

Learning Cloud Australia, Learning Cloud Ireland and Learning Cloud New Zealand have today launched the inclusion of the Toshiba Chromebook standard for all courses.

The Chromebooks will be optimised for the student experience complete with course work and direct online access to enroled Online Courses.  With the central management console being deployed, tutors and students can communicate like never before.
So what are some of the benefits for going Google Chrome?

Design and features

The silver-colored body is covered in a textured resin that I personally do not like the feel of. Plus, the lid has some flex to it and doesn't seem like it'll offer too much protection for the screen on the inside. However, Toshiba offers optional snap-on covers for this model that should toughen it up a bit as well as smooth out the finish.

What is SCORM?

In a nutshell, being SCORM certified means that Learning Cloud is up to date with Online Learning.
SCORM stands for "Shareable Content Object Reference Model" and it is a set of technical standards developed for eLearning software products. In its essence, SCORM enables interoperability between eLearning software products. Specifically, the model determines how online learning content and Learning Management Systems (LMS) communicate with each other.

How did SCORM come about?

Back in the nineties, the US government was doing a lot of online training across all of their different departments. Each department operated autonomously developing their own training courses and delivering them via the LMS of their choice. As you can imagine, this led to a lot of content duplication and results located all over the place. Without any standards, there was no interoperability between the various departments' content and all of the proprietary LMSs being used. Therefore, in 1999 the Department of Defence tasked a research group called Advanced Distributed Learning (ADL) with the job of developing a set of standards which later became known as SCORM.

What does it mean when it says Learning Cloud is
SCORM 1.2 Certified?

SCORM 1.2 is one version of the eLearning software standards that have evolved
over time. There are currently 3 versions and the latest one has a few different editions.
Released in October 2001, SCORM 1.2 is the most common and widely adopted version
that will be around for a good, long while to come. When we say we're SCORM 1.2
Certified, this means that we have sent our product to ADL, it has passed the SCORM 1.2
Edition LMS certification process and ADL has confirmed that we have implemented the
SCORM 1.2 standards correctly.

New Partnerships

New Partnerships

This week Learning Cloud proudly became a member of the Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS), a charity who has been protecting Australian ocean wildlife since 1965!

Focusing on the protection on threatened ocean wildlife (such as sharks, seals and whales), they also fight to protect our coasts from inappropriate development, make our fisheries sustainable, reduce marine pollution and create large marine sanctuaries.

Among their achievements, the AMCS have:
·         Contributed to the global ban of commercial whaling
·         Lead the campaign to have the Great Barrier Reef secured as a marine park (later recognised as a world heritage area)
·         Won a successful international court case against Japanese whaling -just to name a few!

Not only will Learning Cloud contribute toward the great work being done by the AMCS, but we will also be offering some exciting scholarships and work experience for eligible students in the coming year! Stay tuned for more details!

You can learn more at http://www.marineconservation.org.au/ and contribute by signing petitions, fundraising, volunteering, and of course DONATING! You can even do some Christmas shopping at the site, with proceeds going toward marine conservation.

Learning Cloud Australia Partners with the ORANGUTAN project.

Australia’s own Learning Cloud is pleased to announce that it has partnered with an animal preservation venture called The Orangutan Project, in following with its policy for the protection and preservation of animal species which are considered to be at risk.

Learning Cloud fully expects this partnership to help create an increased awareness of the need to protect and preserve the majestic orangutan, who is not only a beautiful part of our environment but also fulfills an essential role in maintaining a well-balanced ecosystem.

To this effect, Learning Cloud Australia has become a Green Partner with The Orangutan Project with the end goal of supporting a variety of Wildlife Protection Units in Sumatra, as well as carry out a wide range of activities to create an increased public awareness. The agenda of said activities will be announced as they are defined, yet will include promotional actions of a diverse nature while allowing students to participate in the programs.

As a true Australian enterprise, at Learning Cloud we believe our world should be populated by the most diverse animal species, and we have a deep personal understanding of the damage that can be caused to these same species by poaching and human intervention. It is because of this, that we have chosen a cause we deeply believe in to give us an opportunity to do more for the world that surrounds us. To continue in this line, we will release more information as it becomes available and throughout the duration of the partnership. Students studying any Environment & Wildlife Courses or completing the Certificate In Wildlife Conservation will have the opportunity to volunteer throughout these centres.

For more information, please visit Learning Cloud Australia.

About The Orangutan Project

The Orangutan Project (TOP) is one of the world’s most important non-profit organizations dedicated to the preservation, rehabilitation and reintroduction of orangutans into their natural habitat, with the goal of saving both species of orangutan from endangerment and extinction. At the same time, TOP promotes the protection of the rainforest, together with the creation of local partnerships for the conservation of displaced orangutans.

Through all this, TOP closely collaborates with several conservation projects and has become a dedicated protector of the orangutan habitat, with proprietary programs focused on stopping poaching, logging and other illegal human activities which damage the orangutan’s habitat throughout Indonesia.
At this time there are over 2,000 orangutans living in special facilities in Borneo and Sumatra. For more information, please visit http://www. orangutan.org.au//.
