Unusual Pet Businesses that Actually Exist!

The pet services industry is booming. While most people consider getting into grooming, walking or pet-sitting there more options out there. Here are some of the more creative ideas we've heard!

  1. Pet colourist: It is becoming trendy to dye your pets fur, and people in main cities are taking advantage. This could be a great addition to a grooming business if you are looking to stand out from the competition.
  2. Rent a pet: The rental of goats as an eco-friendly mowing and weed control service is becoming more and more popular. You can also rent out chickens in a try-before-you buy scenario. Ideal for those wanting fresh eggs, but are unsure about the commitment involved.
  3. Cat cafes: These are already huge in Japan and the U.S. The first cat cafe opened in Melbourne last year to roaring success, having tables booked out months in advance!
  4. Pet Psychic: Some owners swear by them in order to communicate with their pets. Ideal for the spiritual pet lover out there.
  5. Luxury pet hotels: Just like kennels, these are starting to pop up around Australia, as more and more owners are willing to spend money on their animals.
  6. Pet funerals: End of life services such as memorials, cremations and taxidermy are growing in popularity worldwide.
  7. Pooper-scooper services: Yes, people are willing to pay you to pick up after their pets. Go figure.
  8. Pet taxi service: Busy pets have a lot of appointments to get to, and even busier owners. Taxi services pick up pets an take them to veterinary or grooming appointments. This is a business that requires an extremely low start-up cost, but would be smart to market in wealthy suburbs.
  9. Organic doggie treats: As humans become more and more aware of what they eat, so do pet owners. As such, there has been an increase in the purchase of natural pet food and treats.
  10. Animal acupuncture and massage: After proper training, these businesses can be set up from a clinic, or as a home visit service to save on start-up costs.
  11. Doggles: Glasses for dogs to protect them from the elements are out there and easy to sell online.
  12. Pet food trucks: These have appeared in parks in the U.S to provide treats for pets out on a walk with their owner. Some even double their business by catering for puppy parties!

New Partnership: Pets Australia

Learning Cloud is proud to announce our new partnership with Pets Australia, which commenced earlier this month.

Pets Australia is a society for pet stores, boarding kennels, pet sitters, grooming salons (both mobile and stationary), pet walkers and just about any other pet business you can think off! They will keep you up to date with all the latest industry news, policies and events as well as debunking common pet myths and adding value to your business.

And the best part is, memberships are fully tax deductible as a legitimate business expense!

So what does this mean for our students? Any Learning Cloud student who graduates from one of our pet courses will be able to register with Pets Australia upon completion of their studies. This will not only allow them to keep up to date with the latest industry news and developments, but also allows them to be qualify for one of the most crucial factors when setting up any business – insurance!

Without insurance, a single incident can shut down your business. Just imagine if Spot the Dalmatian manages to wiggle free during a wash, out to oncoming traffic and gets hit by a car. Could you afford the expensive medical bills associated with an accident? If not, pet insurance is vital to your business. It will not only set you up legally, but also provide peace of mind for both your business and yourself.

Pets Australia also have partnerships which allow discounted insurance for its members, and are tailored to the type of pet business you are looking to establish.
